AbstractArt

Artist Statement: The wall art prints in the Abstract Gallery were created using abstract shapes and either bold oil painting techniques or soft watercolor painting techniques. With the bolder abstract oil look, I think it's important to use techniques that create strong, bold brush strokes. This gives an element of texture and depth to the print. With the softer watercolor look, the technique creates softer shapes and more subtle tones. I look for a slightly surreal approach to a common subject or look for shapes, lines and colors to present a visual image. Sometimes it's a total impressionistic piece that catches your eye, the shapes and colors are not depicting realism, but the way they flow or the colors they use, catch your eye. Maybe the piece finishes a room or presents a focal point. It invokes an emotional or visual response. That is what I try and create. For me to present a print, I have evaluated it in many ways to determine if it meets the standards that I have set for myself. Art is in the eye of the beholder, which we can all agree on. What we can't all agree on is what we like and appreciate. We each have different tastes in art and style. That said, in my opinion the artist needs to stay true to their own vision and quality of work.
